Some thoughts to “How to Grow as a Photographer: Reinventing Your Career”:

"Dear Tony,
I just would like to sincerely thank you for the book 'How To Grow As A Photographer' - what an amazing inspiration it was for me! Your words made me realize a great deal about myself as a photo-artist, and actually pushed me to experiment, practice, create, and share! Thank you so much!! Sincerely, Alex Koddrip" -Switzerland based Photographer

"Dear Tony,
I just finished reading your book, How to Grow as a Photographer.  You must get a lot of emails about the book, so I'll try to keep this short.  You see, when I flipped to the front of the book to see when it was published, I saw the year "2006". The year that your book was published, was the year that an internal (spiritual) shift was occurring in me...

It was what you mentioned in your book - that when you define your life values, you start to see how you can develop your photography. 2006 was the beginning of that...

By late 2008, I had a collection of images, and a story to tell.  Scared of rejection, I sent a proposal for my article idea anyway to an Editor. Within 45 mins she responded to my email, and enthusiastically asked me to clean up the article a bit, and send 20 - 40 photographs to go with my story. The story?  It was called 'Life Lessons from the Mountains' - a short article on inner transformations that occurred while looking at nature through the lens. It's a topic that I enjoy writing about (the philosophical, spiritual side of photography).

I was hesitating writing this email to you, until I read the last line in the book: 'Oh, and by the way, stay in touch.'" - Mari Omori, Photographer and Writer

"Hi Mr. Luna, I bought your book on the advice of my friend...I love it! I have been taking photographs since college and have drifted in and out of being serious about it. Once my children were born, it was clear that it was time to 'find my unique talent and embrace its power.'

I like to keep your book at my bedside or on my desk so I can refer to it often. It's so easy to read a great book but let the inspiration fade away as time passes. That's why I like to have it visible to remind me of the lessons it contains.

I am on a quest to learn more about all aspects of photography...I want as much experience as possible and to see how other photographers work.
All the best." - Rebecca Little, Photographer

"I bought your book ''How to Grow as a Photographer' and while it took me a while to plough through and start to apply the ideas, I just want to say it has really helped me to move forward. Last year I uprooted from Asia (where I started my photography career) after 7 years and started from scratch back in my native Europe. It was tough. Your book helped me take control of the situation, take stock and create a plan to move forward. I especially liked the bit about passion based marketing and the Action Board is brilliant!
Best wishes and keep up the good work." - Tom Hayton, Photographer

“I think your book is a great resource to be sure. I too had the same ‘no one will help me, if I think I can learn it, I will tell everybody who will listen’ approach to the business of photography, so I am pleased to learn that you had a similar experience with similar positive results from it!"–John Harrington, photographer and author of, “Best Business Practices for Photographers”

“I love your book! Every single word is meant for me! I love it. It’s inspiring and refreshing and  makes so much sense to me. A lot of the people closest to me don’t understand me or my lifestyle and your book makes me feel like everything will be okay and that it’s okay to jump lily pads!” – Chris Garlington, Photographer, Filmmaker

“I’m writing to let you (know) that I bought your book last night and I find myself answering yes to practically all the questions in the first paragraph of your Introduction. I manage a 34-year old advertising photography studio in the Philippines that I co-founded with my husband. At a meeting with my staff this afternoon I read your first paragraph to them because it describes everything that seems to be ailing our profession and business nowadays. Thank you very much for writing this book. We hope to draw inspiration from it so we can face our work with renewed enthusiasm.” – Mrs. Harvey V. Chua, General Manager, Adphoto, Inc., The Phillipines
